This book was borne from a reading of Rilke’s poem ‘Requiem for a friend’, that was written for his friend Paula Modersohn-Becker, who died at the age of 31, twenty days after giving birth to her daughter. It was read to me by a friend, and I made this work as I thought of his voice and silence within the poem. The book is written from the perspective of Paula and is reminiscent of home photo albums where erasure of a photograph takes place in the most visible way.
